On Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025, the North Hills School District was notified of a potential cybersecurity incident by our Student Information System provider, PowerSchool, impacting numerous school districts across the country.

PowerSchool has since confirmed student and staff data was accessed by an unauthorized party and NHSD is among the districts affected.

NHSD's IT team conducted a thorough search of our logs and determined the compromised data includes contact information for students and staff including names, addresses and phone numbers dating back to the 2012-13 school year. Partial medical information was also obtained for some students. NHSD does not store sensitive information such as social security numbers or financial information in PowerSchool and no such data was compromised.

In a webinar on Jan. 8, 2025, PowerSchool assured its customers the incident was contained and the compromised data was deleted without further replication or dissemination. They also stated they had implemented a series of measures to further secure their systems and enhance access controls and monitoring.

The safety and security of our staff and students’ personal information is paramount. NHSD will provide updates as warranted.

PowerSchool has created a FAQ page that will be updated as they learn more information and take additional steps in response to the security incident.
