Students across the district will take part in various activities in support of Children’s Grief Awareness Day on Thursday, Nov. 21.

The initiative, which aims to bring awareness to the needs of grieving children and offer support, was created by Pittsburgh-based Highmark Caring Place in 2008.

It is observed annually on the third Thursday in November, one week before the Thanksgiving holiday. The date is significant since the holiday season is an especially difficult time after the death of a loved one.

Students and staff are encouraged to wear blue on Children’s Grief Awareness Day in support of those who have lost loved ones and may be grieving this holiday season.
