North Hills names Heather Scanlon Highcliff Elementary assistant principal

North Hills School District has hired Heather Scanlon as the new assistant principal at Highcliff Elementary School. The school board approved her hiring at its meeting on May 14.

Scanlon replaces former assistant principal Colleen Frankel, who left the district in January after accepting a principal position at Aiken Elementary School in the Keystone Oaks School District.

A veteran educator with 19 years of experience in public and private education, Scanlon brings expertise in both regular and special education, literacy, student support programming and leadership development. She currently serves as a third grade teacher in the Keystone Oaks School District and previously held positions as a career readiness advisor and transition coordinator.

Throughout her career, Scanlon has led initiatives focused on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), curriculum design, data analysis and transition planning. She has also built partnerships with local businesses and organizations to support career readiness opportunities for students.

“Throughout the interview and application process, Dr. Scanlon consistently emphasized the importance of high academic expectations, positive school culture and strong relationships with students, staff and families,” said Superintendent Dr. Patrick Mannarino. “Her passion for supporting students and creating an environment where everyone can thrive stood out immediately, and we are excited to welcome her to the Highcliff community.”

Scanlon earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary and special education, master’s degree as a reading specialist and principal certification from Pennsylvania Western University. She also earned a doctorate degree in leadership and administration from Point Park University.

In addition to her educational leadership experience, Scanlon has served as a department leader and chairperson, coached cross country and track and field, participated in the Rotarian Club and worked with STEM partnership initiatives through the Allegheny Intermediate Unit.

Scanlon lives in Murrysville with her family of five including her 15-year-old dog, Lily.

She will officially begin her role this summer ahead of the 2026-27 school year.
